Description

Averrhoa bilimbi L. can grow to a height of 5-6 m. Branched many times, upright, branches or young stems very pubescent. Leaves are compound, arranged alternately and tend to be grouped at the end of the stem. Leaflets are oblong-lanceolate, base rounded oblique, tip acuminate, and both sides of the leaf surface pubescent. Flower clusters are ramiflorous, panicle type, and many-flowered. Flowers are purplish red. Fruit is a berry, ellipsoid-obovoid, terete to pentagonal, and greenish yellow. Seeds are medium many, flat. Fruit flesh is very sour.



Usage

Bilimbi can be used to relieve yellow fever, fever, measles, treat scabies, puru disease (holey soles of the feet and throbbing sensation in the feet, hardness on the soles of the feet), bridal seizures/death seizures, complementary treatment for kidney stones, smooth urination, care for mothers after childbirth, baths for mothers after childbirth, control cholesterol levels, blood pressure, and blood glucose levels.
