Zingiber montanum is a perennial herb that grows vertically. The rhizome is light orange in color and has a strong aroma. The stem is usually 1.2-1.5 m long, sometimes reaching 2 m. The leaves are sessile, densely and densely growing, glabrous except for the lower part of the hairy midrib. The leaves are pointed to the tip and broad at the base, the ligule is hairy, the leaf fronds are glabrous or hairy on the edge near the ligule. The flower clusters are fusiform or cylindric-ovate, acute, brownish green with pale edges, the inflorescence is hairy on the exposed part. The corolla and labellum are pale yellow, the central lobe is almost round.
