Syzygium aromaticum is a tree that reaches a height of up to 20 m. The trunk is quite low-branched, the bark is gray. The leaves are arranged alternately, obovate-oblong to elliptical, the base of the leaf is acute, the tip of the leaf is acuminate, the leaf surface is shiny, has glandular spots, and smells fragrant when squeezed. The petioles are reddish and swollen at the base. The flower clusters are terminal, panicle-like. The flowers are bisexual, the flower buds are long, the calyx is tubular, yellowish green then becomes reddish, and has four reddish petals. The fruit is a berry, ellipsoid to obovoid, dark red, with one oblong-shaped seed.
