Description

Piper nigrum is a climbing plant reaching a height of up to 10 m. The surface of the stem is smooth, the stem has segments. The leaves are simple, glabrous, arranged alternately, ovate in shape, the leaf edges are smooth, the leaf tips are acuminate, the leaf bases are oblique to rounded. The upper leaves are dark green in color and shiny while the lower leaves are pale green and have glandular spots. The secondary leaf veins have 5-7 pairs. The flower clusters are spicate, appearing opposite the leaves on the branching stems. The flowers are unisexual or bisexual. The fruit is globose, drupe-like, sessile or sessile, meran-colored when ripe. The seeds are globose.
