Phyllanthus emblica is a medium-sized tree that can reach heights of up to 36 m. The trunk is greyish-brown, turning orange-brown when the thin scaly bark peels off. The wood is hard and yellowish-brown in colour. The leaves are compound, dense, and arranged oppositely. The leaflets have rounded apices and bases, slightly curved margins, and short petioles. The inflorescences are axillary. The flowers are green, very small, and borne in dense clusters. The fruits are round, fleshy, and juicy, indehiscent, and turn greenish when mature. This species is commonly found in lowland forest areas.
Usage
This plant is commonly used to control high blood pressure.
