Tinospora crispa is a woody climber reaching up to 15 m in length. The stems are gnarled or tuberculate, contain a bitter sap, and produce long aerial roots. The leaves are spirally arranged, ovate, orbicular, or heart-shaped, the base of the leaves is cordate, the tip of the leaves is acuminate, and the edges of the leaves are smooth or wavy. The inflorescences are pseudoracemous and bloom when the plant is leafless. The flowers are bisexual, have three petals, and are green. The fruit is a drupe, ellipsoid in shape, the surface of the fruit is almost smooth, and is orange.
Usage
Patawali is used to shrink warts, relieve yellow fever, treat scabies, as an ingredient in massage oil, reduce muscle and nerve pain, expel wind from the body, treat gastritis, control high blood pressure, control blood glucose levels, treat wounds (complications of diabetes), and treat sinusitis and hemorrhoids.
